a saucer from serial production was used for testing ceramic colors. [ceramic ware, dm. 16,3cm]
the favourite addition to my collection of design made in gdr last year – a late 1950s sgraffito piece by hedwig bollhagen. it combines hedwig bollhagens style and the manner of decoration of the artist charles crodel, who has worked several times at the hb-werkstätten. this master piece reflects the influence of her friendship. [sgraffito decorated stoneware, h. 24cm]
happy 2014!
the impressive list of workshops, where christian richter got his education and work after his apprenticeship, sounds like the who’s who of east german ceramists: heiner-hans körting, walter gebauer, eva schulz-endert, karl grothe and hedwig bollhagen. after his traveling years he founded an own workshop in berlin-niederschönhausen. this piece is a early example of his work. its contrast between the rough surface and the smooth rim is very typical. [chamotte (grog) clay, h. 14,5cm]
today i found a surprise at the current quittenbaum catalogue – a nice bollhagen vase with a really high estimation. my sample with a similar decoration has just the half of the size. [glazed stoneware, h. 10cm]
