the types of glaze and clay are unique and clear for the work of gerda körting. but her imaginative handling with shapes of vessels is always surprising.

gerhard dölz – vase | c. 1960

gerhard dölz was the third member of the artist collective saalfeld in addition to gerda körting and karl juettner. together they found through the art their way to ceramics. this fact is often reflected by the experimental and more artistic style of his ceramics. [glazed clay, h. 21,2cm]

gerda körting – vase | c. 1965

the lack of glaze made the ceramists from east germany very creative in decorating the surfaces of their ceramics. as a result you can find a advanced culture of unglazed ware, sophisticated decoration of surfaces made by scratching, cutting, modeling or stamping. in this case gerda körting has used a rädel decoration for this masterpiece.
