erfurt – exhibition “rupfentiere von renate müller”


the current exhibition at molsdorf palace in erfurt gives an insight into the work of renate müller. meanwhile her “rupfen”-animals are one of the most sought-after pieces of design made in gdr. a great number of toys, inclusive more than 50 animals, made from jute and leather with wood wool filled, are shown. the exhibition will run until 18th of march 2018.

wilfried kühn [attrib.] – anniversary goblet | wtk meissen | 1983


in 1983, everybody seems to be celebrating the anniversary of martin luther birth 500 years ago. there are so many souvenirs known about this occasion, such as this particularly elaborate piece. three medallions are mounted at this goblet, which shows a relief of the luther rose. the design of this goblet based on a anniversary piece of the wtk meissen from 1980. [white porcelain, h. 15,2cm]

astrid löffler – cup and saucer | lettin | c. 1964


the shape of the set was developed by astrid löffler during her time as assistant at the burg giebichenstein. a version with perforated foot is documented in the standard-book “kunsthandwerk in der ddr”. the set was produced shortly with several decorations, but with no influence of astrid löffler. [gilded porcelain, h. 10cm]

bernd-jürgen bayersdorf – figure | c. 1970


a typical market-woman of the potter market: communicative and open-hearted. maybe you can meet them at the 43th potter market in bürgel at the upcoming weekend (16.-18. jun. 2017). [lacquered papier mâché and wood, h. 26,4cm]

p. s. the annual market for historic ceramics takes place in the former freigang/gebauer work shop during the opening time.

siegfried gramann – vase | c. 1950


the quality label of the german crafts was initialised by horst michel in 1949. it indicates outstanding pieces of craftship and the work of an individual craftsmen respectively. one of the first appointed craftsmens was siegfried gramann. this vase with its aura of the neue sachlichkeit is still labeled with the original sticker: white lily over blue ground. [glazed stoneware, h. 11cm]
